It has been a tough few weeks for law enforcement, Paramedics, FDs and the communities they serve. Particularly in the US where people have lost their lives in highly charged, emotional, split second situations. The loss of each and every life is a tragedy, as is the impact it has on individual members of the public and emergency services.
There are not too many times in the last half century that Officers are pulling on ther uniforms and wondering if they will get shot or killed tonight, or need to make a gut wrenching decision, embedded by training, to neutralise a perceived threat.
Parents are worried about their kids getting pulled over by Cops and Cops are on knife edge wondering if any situation could explode into a fit of anger, threats and spiral out of control. Everyone is scared and everyone is brave to stand up for what they believe.
Law enforcement has the added stress that any call could be a lone wolf trap or attack, and in the US the real possibility that live fire rounds are discharged into crowds. It’s a difficult point in US history and combined with the presidential election, things are volatile.
We were glad to see Charlotte, NC, protesters and Police take back their moral rights from fanatics: the right to peaceful protest and the right to serve and protect community gatherings or protests without being shot at.
Always walk the high road, no matter how hard it may seem.
We have lost numerous emergency services personnel recently, and to their agencies, families, communities & colleagues, we extend out deepest sympathies.
