๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ New team to target offenders who “evade and ram” police cars

Australia: A spate of police vehicles being rammed continues, despite a driver being shot dead in Victoria recently.

Police have said there has been an increase in number of vehicles being deliberately driven at Victorian Police.

Over the weekend, another police car was rammed at Etham, in Melbourne’s north eastern suburbs. The police vehicle was parked at Eltham Police Station, in Pryor Street, when it was rammed at about 2pm on Sunday afternoon. No one was injured.

Police today said they have arrested a Flowerdale man and charged him with criminal damage and traffic offences.

Over the past four weeks police across Darebin, Whittlesea, Nillumbik and Banyule have arrested 11 people for ramming and evade police offences.

The problem has become so bad that Police have now established a special team to target “evade and ram” offenders.

Superintendent Tim Hansen said this type of behaviour posed a significant safety risk to both police and the community.

โ€œWe have developed a team within our police division which will target those offenders who choose to evade and ram police vehicles, and ensure they are identified and arrested,โ€ he said.

โ€œI can assure the community we will continue to be very strong in responding to this type of crime and bringing offenders before the courts.โ€
