The small town of York in Western Australia has been struck with a blow overnight after an intense blaze that destroyed their St John Ambulance sub-Centre.

• Two emergency vehicles were completely gutted
• Centre’s garage also completely gutted
• Police currently unable to comment on the cause

The York ambulance service is a volunteer sub-Centre of St John Ambulance, which provide emergency ambulance and paramedic for the State of Western Australia. Volunteers services perform the function in much of the vast State.

  

Located 97 kilometres east of Perth, York has a population of about 3,000 people. St John Ambulance relies on volunteers to provide emergency ambulance services in many country areas of WA.
The service covers 33% of Australia’s geographical area and is said to have the largest single response area of any ambulance service in the world.
